Abhijeet Dipke Gets Conditional Bail After Delhi Police Detention

Civic activist and Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has been granted conditional release by a Delhi court following his preventive detention ahead of a planned protest in the national capital. Dipke was detained alongside CJP associates Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka as police took precautionary measures before the demonstration.

According to reports, the three men were released after appearing before a Special Executive Magistrate. Their release followed the completion of legal formalities and the furnishing of bonds reportedly worth ₹50,000. The conditions required them to maintain peace and good behaviour for a period of one year.

The detentions took place amid preparations for a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The demonstration was linked to allegations of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The protesters raised concerns about the electoral process, while allegations of wrongdoing remain disputed.

Delhi Police reportedly invoked Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) as part of the preventive action. Such proceedings are intended to address potential breaches of public peace or other specified risks. The precise circumstances and legal basis of each person’s detention are matters distinct from the conditions imposed upon their release.

The conditional release does not amount to a finding that the allegations raised by the protesters are true or false. It also does not, by itself, establish that the detainees committed a criminal offence. The action formed part of preventive proceedings surrounding the proposed demonstration, rather than a determination of the underlying political dispute.

The development comes amid continuing tensions over electoral-roll revision and demands for accountability from the Election Commission. Dipke and his associates are now subject to the conditions attached to their release. Further developments may depend on any subsequent legal proceedings, official statements and the organisers’ response to the police action.
