Actor Imran Khan Detained by Mumbai Police During CJP Protest

Bollywood actor Imran Khan was detained by Mumbai Police on October 10, 2026, during a protest at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai. The actor had joined demonstrators supporting the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which had called for protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. His detention attracted attention after he shared a photograph from inside a police vehicle on social media.
The demonstration in Mumbai was organised in solidarity with the CJP's planned protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. Police had deployed hundreds of personnel and placed barricades around August Kranti Maidan to prevent the gathering. Hundreds of protesters were detained during the police operation, including activist Tushar Gandhi and actor Imran Khan.
Following his detention, Imran Khan shared a photograph from a police van with the caption, “Apparently I'm going for a drive.” He also told the media that he was participating as a concerned citizen, rather than as a representative of any organisation. His remarks focused on freedom of movement and the ability of people to express their views through peaceful demonstrations.
The protests followed allegations of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with demonstrators demanding accountability from the Election Commission. The CJP-led campaign drew support from public figures in several cities, while police took preventive action against gatherings that lacked permission. Importantly, actor Imran Khan was detained by Mumbai Police, not Delhi Police, and this is separate from the detention of YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in Gurugram.
