Pakistan, Türkiye to Deploy Forces to Saudi Arabia Amid Houthi Threat

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye have agreed to activate collective defence measures amid escalating attacks by Yemen’s Houthi forces. The decision marks a significant step in implementing the three countries’ recently signed defence agreement.

The agreement, signed in Mecca in August, establishes a collective-defence principle under which an armed attack against one member is considered an attack against all three. The latest move comes as tensions involving the Houthis and Saudi Arabia increase.

Following an emergency meeting in Riyadh, the three countries agreed to move toward the rapid deployment of agreed military forces and capabilities inside Saudi Arabia. However, officials have not publicly disclosed the number of troops involved or whether they would directly participate in combat operations.

The developments come amid heightened military activity around Yemen and the strategically important Red Sea region. Houthi forces have continued to pose a security challenge through missile and drone attacks, while Saudi-backed Yemeni forces have intensified operations against them.

The activation of the defence mechanism could significantly reshape regional security cooperation. Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye are now expected to coordinate more closely on defence and deterrence as they respond to the growing threat in the region.
